Saint Francis Names Scott Ellner, D.O., MPH, Vice Chairman Surgery and Director of Surgical Quality

DrEllner2 (Hartford, Conn. May 1 , 2013) – Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center has promoted Scott Ellner, D.O., MPH, of Avon, to Vice Chairman Surgery and Director of Surgical Quality. 

In this new role, Dr. Ellner will be responsible for overseeing surgical quality improvement initiatives and working on program development in the Surgery Service Line. 

Dr. Ellner joined Saint Francis in 2005 as a trauma and acute care surgeon. He is an assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

Dr. Ellner serves as the National Surgical Quality Improvement Project (NSQIP) Surgeon Champion, Saint Francis Hospital Department of Surgery and Surgical Quality. He is also a member of the Hospital’s Surgical Site Performance Improvement (SSPI) SCIP Core Measures Task Force; and the Peer Review and Governance Project, Member, Revision Bylaws Task Force for Performance Review, Saint Francis Hospital Governance. Dr. Ellner is a member of the Hospital minimally invasive robotics team and the Bariatric Center of Excellence. 

Dr. Ellner received his D.O. from the College of Osteopathic Medicine at the Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, CA. He received his MPH from the Division of Occupational and Environmental Health, San Diego State University, San Diego, CA. 

He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery; the American College of Surgeons, Advanced Life Support; and holds National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners Certificate.
