(HARTFORD, Conn.) - George Ducharme, the Captain of Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center's team in the Foodshare Walk Against Hunger, was the leading fundraiser in this year's Walk.
Ducharme collected $13,663.96 through pledges in the agency's 26th Annual Walk, which raised more that $482,000 this year, a record amount. In all, Saint Francis' team collected $ 19,656.51 in the Walk.
As a result of its participation in the Walk, the Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center Emergency Food Bank received $13,646.82 to support its operations. The funds will be used to purchase food along with a new freezer and a new refrigerator. Saint Francis' Food Bank, the only hospital-based food bank in the United States, supplies food to over 800 families a month.
Founded in 1897, Saint Francis is a major teaching hospital licensed for 617 acute inpatient beds and 65 bassinets. It is the largest Catholic hospital in New England.
