Stroke Screenings Scheduled

(HARTFORD, Conn.) – In connection with the observance of May as National Stroke Awareness Month, Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center will offer free stroke risk screenings and information on stroke.

According to the American Stroke Association, about 700,000 Americans will have a stroke this year, making it the country’s third leading cause of death. Strokes can be prevented. Screening is the most effective way to detect conditions that could lead to a stroke.

On Friday, May 16, and Friday, May 23, information on strokes and screenings will be available aboard HealthCheck, the Saint Francis Care mobile wellness center, at Westfarms, from 8 a.m. to noon. HealthCheck also will offer stroke awareness information and risk screenings at the We Care Prevention Fair, to be held on the grounds of the Gengras Ambulatory Care Center, 1000 Asylum Ave., Hartford, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stroke awareness information and risk screenings also will be available at the Farmington Valley YMCA, 97 Salmon Brook St., Granby, on Tuesday, May 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
