Women who are at increased risk of breast cancer or ovarian cancer due
to family history or other factors are evaluated, and are offered genetic
testing if appropriate. For the women who have these cancer predisposing
genes, counseling and discussion of state-of-the-art surveillance options
as well as surgical and medical preventive options are provided.
Women at high risk due to family history or other factors, but who may
not have an identified genetic abnormality can be offered state-of-the-
art surveillance options as well as hormonal options to reduce their risk.

- Breast and Ovarian Cancer Risk Evaluation and Genetic Testing
Women who are at high risk of breast or ovarian cancer due to family
history or other factors are evaluated and, if needed, are offered genetic
testing for BRCA I and II.
- Breast Cancer Prevention
The women at high risk are offered medical and surgical options to reduce
their risk of breast cancer and are followed very closely. Eligible postmenopausal
women also can be offered participation in the National Cancer Institute
sponsored NSABP STAR trial comparing tamoxifen to raloxifene for breast
cancer prevention.
- Clinical Protocols and Research
Our physicians are active participants in National Cancer Institute
sponsored national research groups e.g. ECOG, NSABP, etc. All those protocols
are available to our patients if needed, Including the STAR trial for prevention
of breast cancer.
