Luis Diez-Morales, MD – Medical Director
Dr. Diez-Morales was name Director of Medical Outpatient Services at Saint Francis in 1984. Luis has also served as the Systems Medical Director of Ambulatory Services. Currently, he serves as the Chief of General Internal Medicine and the Chairman of the Continuing Medical Education Committee at Saint Francis. In his new role within CDRMHI, he will be responsible for developing and organizing the clinical standards, protocols, clinical services and quality management for both entities.
Luis earned his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico, School of Medicine in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. He completed his internal medicine residency at Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, Michigan, where he also served as Assistant Chief Resident and Chief Resident. Luis then completed an endocrinology fellowship at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
Board certified in internal medicine, Luis is a member of the Hartford County Medical Association and the Connecticut State Medical Society. He is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine for the University of Connecticut School Of Medicine and has been twice awarded the Thomas Preston Award for Excellence in Teaching. Luis is also a Founder and current President of the Malta House of Care, a mobile clinic that provides free care for the uninsured in Hartford.
Marlene Murphy-Setzko, MD – Urologist
Dr. Murphy-Setzko joined CDRMHI April 21, 2012. Marlene is one of our team urologists and has her private practice with Hartford Urology Group which is affiliated with Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. As part of our team, Marlene is our spokesperson and clinical presenter, and provides on-site examinations and clinical oversight at our outreach events. Additionally, she provides input and guidance with our Medical Director and Public Health Nurse regarding all clinical issues related to prostate health.
Marlene completed her residency training in Urology at the University of Connecticut and became board certified by the American Board of Urology in 2002. She is also the Director of Urology at the Mandell Multiple Sclerosis Clinic. Marlene is an Assistant Professor for the Department of Urology at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Her clinical interests and specialties include urodynamics, the management of neurogenic bladders related to spinal cord injuries and multiple sclerosis, the treatment of post-prostatectomy incontinence and erectile dysfunction.
Carl Gjertson, M.D. - Urologist, Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Assistant Professor, Department of Urology, University of Connecticut School of Medicine
Dr. Gjertson is a Urologist at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center and is trained in using the da Vinci Surgical System®. Carl serves at the Assistant Professor for the Department of Urology at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He completed his surgical internship and served as a resident in the Department of Urology at New York – Presbyterian Hospital. He also served as a fellow in laparoscopy and endourology at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis.
