Course Description

Adult Cardiac Ultrasound

Class and Clinical Internship 

This 52-week program comprises an initial five weeks of dedicated classroom instruction, concentration on anatomy, basic equipment operation and fundamental skill development in cardiac ultrasound. The remaining 47 weeks comprises four days of clinical, hands-on instruction at our hospital training sites and one day of classroom instruction. Students rotate their clinical training in several local hospitals. These rotations provide students with a broad range of clinical experiences.

Students will have clinical observation in areas of:

Educational concentrations in areas of: 

  • Cardiac catheterization
  • Graded exercise testing
  • Cardiac rehabilitation
  • Open heart surgery
  • EKG 
  • Cardiac anatomy and physiology
  • Adult echocardiography
  • Ultrasound physics
  • Cardiovascular principles and instrumentation

Clinical Internship and Rotations 

Clinical rotations are completed at six hospitals within a 20-mile radius of Hartford. These clinical settings provide experience at small community hospitals and major teaching hospitals. This variety helps develop the essential skills necessary to become a registered technologist and working professional. We also have clinical sites at Danbury Hospital, William Backus Hospital in Norwich, Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London,  The Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven, Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford Springs and Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass.
