Palliative Care and Hospice

Palliative care and hospice share similar philosophies. Both provide coordinated, comprehensive care. Our Palliative Care Service provides consultation to patients in the hospital and is available whether or not they are receiving curative treatments. Palliative care can encompass hospice care, which is for patients who have a life expectancy of six months or less.

Hospice care is available in the patient’s home, in an extended care facility, at a free-standing hospice, or, for brief periods, in the hospital. The Palliatve Care Team at Saint Francis can help patients connect with home services in the patient’s community and can help with the transition to hospice. Hospice care at home is provided by our partner, MasonicCare Partners Home Health & Hospice.
