Screening and Diagnostic Mammography:
High quality, low dose radiation mammography is performed daily with a
radiologist on site to give results to the patient immediately. By having
a radiologist specialilzing in breast imaging on site, any further diagnostic
exams can be performed on the same visit.
Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD):
This sophisticated computer technology was first made available in Connecticut at the Breast Center. It assists the radiologist
in finding abnormalities on the mammogram, thus enabling the radiologist
to find cancers at the earliest possible time. Studies have shown a 20 percent
increase in cancer detection with this technology.
Breast Ultrasound:
A brand new, state-of-the-art, ultrasound machine is used to evaluate
palpable abnormalities, mammographic abnormalities and to assist in biopsies.
Stereotactic and ultrasound guided biopsies:
Biopsies of the breast are performed by the technique that is most appropriate
for each patient. This may be under ultrasound guidance or stereotactic
guidance. A fine needle aspiration, core biopsy or mammotome biopsy can
be performed as necessary. Your doctor and radiologist will determine
which biopsy method is the best for you.
Bone densitometry:
This simple scan measures bone density in the spine and hip to look for
evidence of osteoporosis. A DEXA scan can be scheduled at the same time
as mammography for your convenience.
