The curriculum is based on the CREOG objectives and is designed over a 2 year cycle. The core components are delivered during the 3 hour block of protected teaching time on Friday mornings and a 1 hour block Wednesday afternoon each week. The lecture series is constantly being revised based on CREOG results and resident feedback. Residents also participate in skills workshops and simulation drills.


Residents are required to carry out a research project during the residency. A formal research program is in place to help residents find a project, develop a question, get IRB approval and gather data. Statistical analysis is facilitated by hospital personnel. Residency goal is to have a team QI project completed by end of PGY-1 year, individual research project with abstract and poster by end of PGY-3 year and publication by PGY-4 year.



Evaluations are done on at the end of each rotation. Residents immediately receive a copy of their evaluations. Semi-annual evaluations are performed to ensure that the resident is on track. The Program also uses CREOG exam results and an oral exam to measure medical knowledge. Residents achieving suboptimal evaluations are placed on a tailored performance improvement plan. Residents are also evaluated by other members of the health care team including nurses, administrative and clerical staff, other residents and patients. Promotion is based on successfully meeting the goals and objectives for each year.

Clinical Simulation Center

The hospital has a high-fidelity, multimedia flexible simulation center and conference room. This facility allows objective measurement of resident skills in several of the competencies. Furthermore, simulations for uncommon but potentially life threatening conditions can be safely accomplished. This will help prepare the resident for recognition and treatment of these rare and dangerous events.

Clinical Rotations


Experience in the PGY-1 year is closely supervised. The resident gains proficiency with patient evaluation, write-ups, transfer of care, presentations, minor gynecologic surgery, vaginal delivery and primary cesarean deliveries. They participate in workshops on obstetrical complications and surgical techniques.

The PGY-2 year is developmental and includes management of uncomplicated obstetrical patients, repeat cesarean deliveries and more exposure to gynecologic surgery. Second year residents also rotate to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

The PGY 3 year is also developmental and includes training in the subspecialties of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Urogynecology and Reproductive Endocrine and Infertility. These senior residents assume responsibility while on call for the Women’s Health Center patients and any complicated in house patient. The PGY 3 resident is also charged with overseeing the work of junior residents, teaching, communicating with attendings and managing the subspecialty services.

The PGY 4 resident functions as a junior attending. They are responsible for all patients on their service, preparing outpatients for major surgery, teaching junior residents, organizing conferences, overseeing hospital consultations and various other administrative responsibilities.
