Housing and Child Care

Housing Opportunities

The hospital owns and maintains a complex of pleasant, reasonably priced garden apartments located directly across the street from the hospital. These apartments are well maintained and have excellent security. Usually house staff members requesting these facilities can be accommodated. For those desiring other arrangements, there is an abundance of housing in and around the city.

Child Care

Purpose

Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center sponsors a child care center for the children of employees, in order to provide parents with a quality child care option convenient to their workplace.

The Saint Francis Child Care Center provides a safe, healthy and nurturing environment where young children may use their natural curiosity and energy to learn about themselves and their world. A program of activities designed to encourage physical, cognitive, social and emotional development is offered by a professional and experienced staff.

The center also strives to support and strengthen family life. Parents are encouraged to participate in the planning for their children and to attend special events at the Center.

The Child Care Center is licensed by the Connecticut State Office of Early Childhood and benefits from the advice of the professional staff at the hospital. Other hospital services and departments offer valuable support.

Programs

The Infant and Toddler Centers are housed in attractive, homelike settings located directly across the street from the hospital. The buildings have been completely renovated and equipped for young children.

Children, ages six weeks to three years, may receive care for either a full day (up to 9 hours) or a half day (up to 4.5 hours). Frequent attendance on a regular basis is recommended so that children may adjust comfortably and become involved in the program. The Child Care Center is open from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the exception of holidays. A registration fee of one week’s tuition, which will be applied to the first week’s tuition, is due upon acceptance into the center. The daily schedule includes a balance of active and quiet times as well as indoor and outdoor play. Activities are planned to help children master a variety of skills, express their creative ideas and learn to respect themselves and others. A light breakfast and two snacks are provided.
