Thomas Agresta, MD Is CIPCI Section Leader for Informatics. Thomas Agresta M.D., MBI is CIPCI Section Leader for Informatics. Dr. Agresta is also a Professor and the Director for Medical Informatics in Family Medicine and the Co-Director for Health Informatics for the Connecticut Institute for Clinical And Translational Science (CICATS) at the University of Connecticut.
He has a particular interest in promoting “High-Tech, High Touch” primary care and has been active in the development of innovative education, research and primary care delivery models that use technology as tool to achieve this goal. He actively sees patients in a technology enabled Patient Centered Medical Home and oversees the optimal use of the Electronic Health Record for the UConn / St Francis Family Medicine Residency Site. He has been the PI or Co-PI on both educational and research grants focused on the optimal use of Health Information Technology and is currently the PI on a contract with the State Medicaid Agency to help administer the Meaningful Use EHR Incentive program in an optimal fashion. He has served as the founding Vice Chair and Treasurer for the Health Information Technology and Exchange of Connecticut (HITE-CT) a quasi-public agency set up to facilitate Health Information Exchange at the state level.
Dr. Agresta received his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School in 1990 and a Masters degree in Biomedical Informatics from the Oregon Health and Sciences University in 2010. He completed his residency at the UConn / St Francis Family Medicine program in 1993 and was in private practice in Hartford before joining the faculty full-time in 1995.
