Sole Connecticut facility to attain recognition

(Hartford, Conn.  September 30, 2014)  - The Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center (CJRI) is now certified as an ISO 9001:2008, Quality Management Systems compliant organization. CJRI is the only ISO 9001:2008 certified healthcare facility in Connecticut, and one of only 80 healthcare providers nationwide. The certification is awarded by DNV-GL Certification Inc., of Houston, TX.

“ISO 9001:2008 certification is an achievement that truly distinguishes CJRI from other healthcare facilities,” said Christopher Dadlez, President and Chief Executive Officer of Saint Francis. “The ISO Quality Management System underscores the superior quality of CJRI’s healthcare delivery process.”

“We already have an unmatched record of quality achievements, but we wanted to do even better. The ISO certification program gave us new measurement tools, and we are proud that our success has received this impressive recognition,” said Steven Schutzer, M.D., Director of the Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute. “Every patient can be assured that we will not only meet their expectations, but also exceed them.”

To become certified as ISO 9001:2008 compliant, CJRI  underwent a three-year implementation process that included development of a formal quality management system (QMS), management review process, employee training, process documentation, establishment of process metrics and a pre-audit initial assessment; all of which are required to be in compliance with the ISO 9001:2008 standard.

The ISO certification is a rigorous process in which a hospital improves and monitors the delivery of patient care, measures quality and places great emphasis on eliminating and preventing errors. ISO standards are used internationally in different fields including agriculture, construction, manufacturing, aerospace, medical devices and health care. ISO standards are globally known and are considered the "gold" standard for all industries. More than 32,000 organizations in the United States are ISO 9001:2008 certified.
