(Hartford, Conn. June 30, 2011) – Jose Maria Arias-Camison, M.D., has been named Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Interim Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center.
In his new position, Dr. Arias-Camison will supervise the operations of Saint Francis’ Level III NICU, three other neonatologists, and the unit’s clinical staff. He will also be involved in the administration of the Department of Pediatrics, including clinical appointments, recredentialing, and quality review.
Dr. Arias-Camison received his medical degree from the Medical School of the University of Salamanca, Salamanca, Spain. He served as a resident in pediatrics at the Clinic Hospital of Salamanca and at Boston City Hospital, and as a fellow in neonatal/perinatal medicine at Tufts-New England Medical Center, Boston.
Board certified in pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine, Dr. Arias-Camison is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a member of the New England Association of Neonatologists and previously served as President of the organization. Dr. Arias-Camison is also a member the Connecticut State Medical Society, Hartford County Medical Association, and the Perinatal and Young Physician Sections of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Arias-Camison joined Saint Francis as a staff neonatologist in 1999. He holds an appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He is the author of four papers published in peer-reviewed professional journals and the author or co-author of 16 scientific abstracts.

Dr. Arias-Camison lives in Avon with his wife, Amy, and their four children.
