(Hartford, Conn. February 21, 2011) – Arthur W. DeTore, M.D., M.B.A., of West Hartford, has been named Senior Vice President and Chief Physician Executive at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center.

In this newly created position, effective March 7, 2011, Dr. DeTore will be responsible for developing physician integration strategies as well as relationship models to further enhance the cohesion between physicians and Saint Francis Care. His duties will include the establishment of strategic alliances with primary care physician organizations, development of collaborative primary care group practice offerings, physician recruitment, creation of a medical home model, and ambulatory care center facility designs. He is also an expert in service line development.

Dr. DeTore most recently served as Executive Vice President, Strategic Direction and Business Development at Parkview Health, Fort Wayne, Ind., a community health system serving northeast Indiana, where he was responsible for strategic leadership and planning for a tertiary medical center, four community hospitals, a specialty orthopedic hospital, and 200 employed physicians.

He previously held the position of Vice President and Director of Strategic Planning and Knowledge Management at Lincoln Re, a life reinsurance organization. He also has served as Vice President and Chief Knowledge Engineer at Lincoln National Risk Management and Associate Medical Director at Lincoln Re.

Dr. DeTore received his medical degree from the Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, and served as an intern at Christ Hospital, Oaklawn, Ill. He was employed as an emergency department physician by Wesson Emergency Associates at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, Mass., and served as a resident in internal medicine and chief resident at Baystate Medical Center.

Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. DeTore received an executive master of business administration degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Dr. DeTore has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Indiana Health Insurance Forum and the Board of Directors of the Northeast Indiana Innovation Center.
