We have chosen modalities which can comfort individuals, help reduce pain and anxiety, as well as promote healing. Within the hospital, we are blessed to have a number of wonderful practitioners, all credentialed through Saint Francis Integrative Medicine, who provide these services to give patients some quiet attention amongst the busyness of the hospital setting.

CranioSacral Therapy

This gentle and deeply relaxing technique involves the practitioner “listening through the hands” to the body’s subtle rhythms and any patterns of inertia or congestion.  Soft touch to the cranium and spine (the craniosacral system) can help to release tension and restore balance in the body, helping it to access its innate healing response.

Energy Therapy

Energy therapy is a gentle, relaxation technique that can help patients feel calmer and more comfortable. A gentle, non-invasive technique, energy therapy may provide pain relief, allow patients to rest easier, can restore energy levels and help stimulate the body's own natural healing abilities.

Hypnosis is a comfortable and naturally occurring phenomenon that everyone experiences on a daily basis.  During hypnosis, practitioners induce a state of consciousness similar to deep daydreaming, so that the patient is relaxed and open to positive suggestions.  These suggestions can help a person modify – or eliminate completely – unhealthy and unwanted patterns of behavior.

Meditation and Relaxation

Meditation is a state of heightened awareness and inner peace that brings about mental, physical and spiritual benefits.  Meditation has been shown to reverse the body’s “fight or flight” response to stress and invoke deep relaxation.  Practitioners can help introduce this concept to patients through breathwork, mindfulness and deep listening.

Pet Therapy

Studies have shown that pets can lower an individual’s heart rate and blood pressure and be a positive distraction from whatever ails you.

The hands and feet are regarded as mirrors of the body. By applying a controlled amount of pressure to specific points on the feet or hands (reflex areas), the therapist can identify and treat problems in all parts of the body.

Soft Touch Hand Massage

Hands have thousands of nerve endings and many fine-tuned muscles and sensory receptors.  Soft touch hand massage is meant to be very gentle and comforting to the recipient.

Sound Therapy

Sound vibrates in waves at different frequencies and is said to influence both the emotions and certain physiological functions, such as heart rate and breathing.  Sound therapists may use a flute, voice, or bowls to relax and comfort patients.

Therapeutic Massage

Massage therapy is the manipulation of soft muscle tissue that enhances the function of joints and muscles, improves circulation and relieves physical stress and fatigue.  It can also help reduce stress levels, improve relaxation, relieve chronic pain, increase blood flow, and stimulate endorphins (the body’s natural painkillers).
