Our Residency
Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center has offered a pharmacy practice residency since July of 2000. Our program was awarded ASHP accreditation in November of 2002. Since inception, the program has addressed the individual needs of our residents while adhering to the principles and philosophies described in the ASHP Standards for Pharmacy Practice Residency Training. Pharmacists completing the residency program will demonstrate confidence and competence in multiple patient-care settings, assumption of the responsibility for pharmaceutical care outcomes, and leadership skills necessary to function as an independent member of the healthcare team.
The resident will complete a minimum of 48 weeks of experience with required rotations in acute patient care, ambulatory patient care, drug information and drug policy, and practice management. In addition, all residents will complete a one-month rotation in medication safety.
Residents will complete a longitudinal pharmacy practice (service/staffing) component and they will complete and present a major project. Residents may choose elective care rotations to complement their required core rotations. Elective care rotations include:
- Cardiology Intensive Care
- Emergency Department
- Inpatient Oncology
- Surgical Intensive Care(ICU I)
- Medical Intensive Care(ICU II)
- Anticoagulation Care

- Infectious Disease Clinic
- Adult Internal Medicine
- Gengras Adult Medical Clinic
- Charter Oak Community Health Center (new for 2010)
