According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, someone in America has a stroke every 45 seconds. It is the nation’s leading cause of long-term disability and fourth leading cause of death. Join Drs. Afshani, Kelsey, and Krug as they discuss the spectrum of care for strokes and introduce the new Stroke Center at Saint Francis. Learn about the causes of strokes and what you can do to reduce your risk, how they affect men and women differently and what options are available for those who have had a stroke.
The Stroke Support Group
Seeking support from others who have experienced a stroke can be a valuable tool in the recovery process. The Stroke Support Group at the Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital provides stroke survivors in the community the peer-to-peer emotional, social, and physical support they need.
Our support group educates participants about stroke, enables them to share their experiences, and become inspired to move forward after their stroke.
By meeting routinely, members can provide each other with comfort and help one another face and overcome common challenges. It can also be a place for the families of stroke survivors and their caregivers to come together to discuss their experiences and encourage one another.
A featured speaker is frequently part of the program. A guest may include a dietician, a representative from the American Stroke Association, a therapeutic yoga instructor, or a physical therapist discussing current trends in stroke rehabilitation.
Join the Stroke Support Group at the Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital today. A little help can go a long way in the recovery process.
