Nurse Residency Program
The Nurse Residency Program (NRP) at Saint Francis Hospital (SFH) and Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital (MSRH) is a one-year paid program designed for Registered Nurses with less than 12 months of clinical experience. Our collaborative interprofessional approach using the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program™ framework, developed by Vizient and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, supports new graduate nurses as they successfully transition to competent professionals.
Supporting the Nurse Resident by helping them learn to:
- Use effective decision-making skills
- Provide clinical nursing leadership when administering care
- Incorporate research-based evidence into practice
- Develop and implement an evidence based practice project
- Strengthen their professional commitment to nursing
- Formulate an individual development plan
During the program, residents will find a mixture of computer-based and classroom-based learning, as well as state-of-the-art simulation learning. The program focuses on practice-based learning utilizing simulation and skills lab, quality and safety for people centered care, evidence-based practice with implementation of an evidence-based practice project, and professional development and leadership.
Candidate requirements:
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing (ADN, BSN)
- Less than 12 months of clinical nursing experience
- Possess a valid Connecticut RN license
- Active license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut (License is not required to apply, but you must be licensed to begin the program)
How to Apply
We accept applications to our Nurse Residency Program year round.
Areas in which we hire new graduate nurses include:
- Medical-Surgical, Float Pool, Cardiovascular, Cardiovascular/Telemetry, Oncology, Acute Care Rehab, Behavioral Health, and Emergency Department. Unit availability depends on current staffing needs. Opportunity to grow into specialty areas available after successful completion of Nurse Residency program.
All candidates will submit a current resume, with your cover letter attached, outlining relevant clinical and work experience, as well as if you are achieving a higher degree.
- The cover letter should state you are a nurse resident, the number of months you have been practicing as an RN (should be less than 12), your top three (3) clinical areas of interest and your professional short - and long-term goals.
