Medical Simulation bridges the gap between the classroom and clinical environment to practice and develop clinical skills without any fear of harm to patients. Simulation increases retention and accuracy, allows repetition, and can be tailored to individuals. Our simulation-based medical education software captures video to highlight specific components of the simulation scenario based on the learning objectives designed into the session. This software enhances the debriefing sessions and enables us to capture data for improvement analysis and research. Learners will advance and improve their knowledge base and hone communication skills to work as an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to provide exceptional patient care.
Our vast scenario library offers a wide range of curriculum from communication simulations with patient actors (standardized patients) to acute care situations using our high fidelity manikins. We are focused on improving communication, teamwork, workflow, and safety. Some examples are code competencies, lipid rescue, environmental cleanup of the OR, difficult conversations, food and nutrition communication, ECMO, pediatric traumas, sepsis, and various OB scenarios. Simulations can also be custom made according to specific learning objectives using our simple planning form.
If you can’t come to us, we can bring simulations to you with our mobile simulation program!
The Procedural Training Room has an array of trainers that can simulate a wide variety of medical procedures and situations allowing students and veteran practitioners to master new medical equipment and technology on simulated patients before using it on live patients as well as receiving feedback from the manikin/patient, thereby improving the culture of patient safety throughout the hospital.
The Nursing Skills Lab includes two patient bays with Laerdal ALS Manikins, Pxis MedStation, IV Pumps, and all the necessary equipment to train new and seasoned nurses on a multitude of skills. Teamwork, communication, work-flow, and patient safety are a constant theme. This space shares the same video capability as the Simulation Studio.
